About me

Hello there! I am Jairo, a PhD candidate in Physics at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, working with Sascha Hilgenfeldt. I study how interactions, mechanics, energy intake, and information govern living matter across scales — from single cells to emergent collective behavior and population dynamics.

Before Illinois, I earned master's degrees in physics at the Instituto de Física Teórica – Universidade Estadual Paulista (São Paulo, Brazil) and at the Perimeter Institute – University of Waterloo (Waterloo, Canada) through the Perimeter Scholars International program, supported by the SAIFR/IFT–Perimeter Fellowship. I completed my undergraduate studies at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (Lima, Peru).
